Calico all the things one has forgotten scream for help in our dreams It was a different time, a different life. Laughter filled the air and the two lay against each other, pressed as close as they could be for it could never be close enough. His mane, black as the night, and hers, white as the moon, mingled together to make the perfect harmony. His eyes were closed as he listened to her voice, her beautiful, harmonious and wonderful voice. His ear flicked back to listen, his head turning and his nose pushing into the crease of her cheekbone, traveling slowly up to her ear where he whispered the words for the first time. "I love you." The breeze of the ocean washed over their bodies, carrying with it the scent of the sea and the scent of her; perfect. In the beginning, it was Athena; her body was as golden as the sun, her locks as white as the moon, but when he opened his eyes, his sun kissed lady was replaced with the silver goddess Caelum. He sighed deeply, a sigh of complete contentment. One had gone from his life, but the one who had come in time had replaced the empty void left in his heart. She had completed him, made him better than he had been before. Caelum had rescued him... if it wasn't for her, he wouldn't be half the stallion he was now.
The soft sand shifted beneath his leg as he let his weight fall, his body rolling from his stomach to be completely on his side. His legs stretched out before his stomach now, his tail flicking. As it rose, it created an arc of water that sprayed droplets over his dark body before landing heavily in the receding tide. His ear flicked slightly to listen to the swoon of the ocean, his eyes still closed though he could see the heat of the sun with brilliant shades of red coming through his eyelids. He was holding on to the last shreds of this dream, imagining the last bits of his treasures and enjoying what the beach had to offer at the same time. In the past, it had always been horrid memories and dreams that flooded his mind. Those had been replaced by tranquility and a love that strengthened with every passing day thanks to Caelum. At the time, the stallion knew contentment... even though he and Cael had been separated.
Again, the tide was carried up to him by a crashing wave. The foam broke over his body, completely drenching him with it's icy guts. His muscles tensed involuntarily, his eyes squeezing tighter shut as the dream completely escaped. His ears pinned slightly, a great moan leaving his mouth as he lifted his head to gave over his side at the mess the ocean had created. As if it were a child declaring it had done nothing wrong, the water pranced back to it's normal line. Grudgingly, the stud rolled back to his stomach, his legs tucking beneath his body as his hooves searched for traction. He stood in one fluid movement, shaking out his entire body to free himself of the sand and sea. Once more, his green eyes settled upon the horizon just beyond the endless surface of the sea, watching as the waves settled and broke, were born and rose again. This was one of his few moments of relaxation, for he was almost always on the move, seeking out that silver lady that pleasantly haunted his dreams since she had left. With an inaudible sigh, the Spanish brute turned his head toward the land and took a step forward, pausing once he saw the form of another upon the beach sands. Curiously, his ears swiveled forward, eyes locked upon the new entity.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Trinity made her way along the beach, her grey dappled flanks shimmering faintly with lingering water droplets from her morning dip into the icy waters. She had done so to wake up, and get moving once more. Her warm, kind gaze drifted over the waves lapping and pulling at the soft sand hard packed by water beneath her hooves. The fae dipped her head slightly, lipping at an oncoming wave with a soft laugh, drawing back before any of the salty liquid could enter her mouth. Her dark grey mane hung over her neck, same colored forelock falling over her forehead to curve and fall over her eye. The mare tossed her head, moving her forelock out of the way, her mane swinging, brushing against her neck as she did so. Black hooves tipped delicately over the soft sand, catching hold and gripping, propelling her forward as she broke first into a trot, and then into a leisurely gallop along the beach, mane and tail streaming, head held high, eyes sparkling with energy and life, hooves pounding near in sync with the surf. How she missed doing this, how she missed being free. As a slave freedom was a rare, and very, very hard to find commodity. Not just anyone could be free as they so chose. No, freedom was something given very, very sparingly by a kind master who took pity on aging souls. The Lusitano mare was one of those aging souls. Her limbs weren’t filled with as much life, and she was nearing the end of her prime.
The silver dappled mare slowed, her hooves hitting the damp sand with less frequency, her muscles showing faint signs of strain. More than anything Trinity wished she could find a kind master, and after that, a kind mate, one who would give her the foals she had always wanted. Foals were a commodity too. They were hard to have because of the lack of freedom. Most mares couldn’t even walk for a drink without their master’s permission. The fae sighed softly, slowing to a swift, distance eating walk, limbs loose and warm, ready for however long she would travel that day. She slowed further however when she caught sight of another horse further down, lying in the surf, seemingly…sleeping? Trinity shook her head a bit, shrugging lightly, not judging this odd male who so chose to sleep in the surf. Most likely he had lain down when the tide was out, sleeping until it came in. The fae saw the male stand, shaking out his coat and then emerald eyes glanced her way, causing her to pause, before continuing determinedly. Running wouldn’t help her. The spry youngster was no doubt faster than she, and besides, she didn’t want to risk laming herself in flight rather than submit to another master. Perhaps this stallion was different. Perhaps he would not be as the other masters she had had in her lifetime. The mare’s ears swiveled forward, hope and curiosity lighting her warm brown gaze as she neared the stallion, automatically lowering her head so as not to be seen as dominant. That would be the last thing she needed.

Calico call my name and save me from this nothing i've become With eyes trained on the fae, a small smile formed upon the black lips of the stag. He didn't dare step forward, knowing all too well how so many of the mares around here reacted to an advancing stud. Instead, his eyes dropped to the sand below, watching her hooves. Isn't it fitting? For this gazelle, this mirage to be approaching him upon the sands of the desert. In his mind, the beach became the arid landscape the breeds of the desert inhabited instead of the warm vacation retreat it truly was. His eyes ran up her slender legs as his gaze raised to hers, looking out of his peripherals at the slender body the desert bred possessed. As she stopped before him, his foreleg bent and the other extended before him, his body dropping into a sweeping bow. His black mane touched the sand as his head tucked beneath his chest, pausing momentarily before the grullo stag rose once more. The smile on his lips was reflected in his eyes. He had the hope that the warmth of a smile would retract the fear others automatically seemed to have around him, to calm the air. Just because he was a master didn't mean anything... other than he escaped the tortures of a slave.
"Forgive me if I've stared, my lady." His voice, young yet deep with the baritones of a hopeless romantic, broke the silence between the two. "It isn't every day I find myself in the presence of one from the desert oasis." The way he looked at her, one would expect him to be waiting for her to disappear like mist, an image graced for his eyes for only a brief moment. "My name's Calico. Might I ask what yours is, or shall we keep it a mystery for the time being?" The smile cracked a bit to become a bit warmer, a bit more intimate. He tossed his Spanish head, moving his forelock from his eyes so that he could fully look at this pure maiden. "And... if it isn't too much to ask, please, don't feel like you're beneath me. Treat me as an equal, because the only thing that's different between us is luck." These words were softer, his eyes drifting down as he spoke them, for fear of seeing something like pain flash through her eyes. That, he wouldn't be able to bear.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Trinity watched the stallion before her, her ears flicking now and then as she watched his gaze drop to her hooves in the sand below, before he ran his gaze up her slender legs. The fae submitted to this, knowing that it was not by far the worst thing this master could do to her, and besides, as long as he wasn’t hurting her in any way shape or form, the mare was content. Tossing her head lightly, watching the stallion bow low to the sands, a faint amused smile crossing her lips. The elegant mare relaxed more upon seeing the warmth in his gaze, the Spanish stag’s smile reflecting in his eyes. It helped a bit for the stallion that she was not so wary of everyone, for even though life had not been all that good to her, she knew that to become constantly in fear was not something that would bode well for any being, slave or otherwise. And so she resolved to live as far away from constant fear as was possible in her restricted world. The mare dipped her head delicately in return, her smile widening ever so slightly as her ears pricked with curiosity, her forelock drifting forward to cover her left eye, adding a youthful look to her, one she sometimes appreciated.
"Forgive me if I've stared, my lady." The stallion said, voice young yet deep with tones that let her know he was not one to be feared, and in fact was most likely one of the better masters to be found. The tones were those she harbored deep within. That of a hopeless romantic. She was not by far romantic on the outside, save for her instinctive grace and poise, but her only desire of life was to find a mate, and have her own children, children she did not have to worry about whether they would be alive the next morning or not. "It isn't every day I find myself in the presence of one from the desert oasis." He continued, and his gaze seemed to show that he believed her to be a mere image upon his conscience, but she would strive to prove that she was no mirage, no hallucination. ”There is no need for forgiveness, sir, for I am not upset. And your words are very flattering, but I’m sure that I am just like any other slave to be found. Perhaps more healthy, but that does not mean much, of course.” She said, her voice soft, like chimes, and just as elegant and dainty as her appearance had suggested. Yet Trinity’s voice was not frail, or weak, no, it was strong, steady, and resilient. "My name's Calico. Might I ask what yours is, or shall we keep it a mystery for the time being?" Calico said, and she dipped her head in a graceful bow before rising, her tail flicking as she smiled warmly. ”A mystery is unnecessary. I am Trinity, and it’s a delightful surprise to find one such as yourself.” The fae spoke politely, though genuine warmth and sincerity graced her lilting words. "And... if it isn't too much to ask, please, don't feel like you're beneath me. Treat me as an equal, because the only thing that's different between us is luck." Calico said, dipping his head, not meeting her gaze. The fae’s gaze was understanding, and if any pain passed through her it was expertly hidden and stowed away for some time later when she was alone. And without company. ”It would be my honor to do so, sir. I hope you will understand though that I cannot completely do so, as it is in my nature to do otherwise, but I give you my word that I will try my best.” Trinity spoke with utter truthfulness, and knew that she would indeed do her best to do as he had asked.

Calico 'cause i don't mind waitin' on a woman He admired her poise, her ability to stand humble yet strong in the presence of a stranger. The edges of deeper respect were beginning to tug on the corners of his mind, demanding he look at her in a different light. She was no damsel in distress; no maiden in need of rescuing. She simply was, and the fact that she could be in a place where others had to pretend? That was impressive in and of itself. He found his ears perking to listen to her words, passively dismissing his forgiveness, deeming herself like other slaves.
"Other slaves, my lady, would die to be in decent health." He stated, cocking his head to the side slightly so that his black locks shifted. "Health is everything. It's what allows us to be here right now. Invalids wouldn't be able to stand the beach, much less the more... brutal masters. I'm glad you have your health." His gaze drifted away from her, pondering over her voice for a minute. It reminded him of someone he once knew; someone he once loved, but she was gone now. In another world, and another had come to take her place. "Your voice is beautiful, by the way." He whispered, the words echoing words he had spoken before to that palomino wonder.
A warm smile crossed his lips at the mention of her name. "Trinity, the pleasure is all mine." He dipped his head into a shallow bow, returning the one she had just presented to him. "Your name suits you very well, if it's not too bold for me to say. I don't think another name could work. Then again, I'm a firm believer that only one name can ever suit one being." The sun was beginning to peak, casting shades of white that dazzled the sand below, illuminating them like diamonds. He squinted against the light, politely amused by the fact that her white coat was blindingly brilliant under this light. "I understand completely, my lady. Perhaps if we considered each other friends, it would be easier?" His smile became coy then, playful, as he stepped forward and away from the mare slightly, looking over his shoulder back at her and gesturing with his head. "And as a friend, I believe it's my duty to accompany you on a walk. If you'll allow me the honor, of course."[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Trinity followed every movement the stallion made with her eyes, the action generally associated with nervousness, but hers was more of respect, and that out of that respect her attention was solely on him as he seemed to assess her. She hoped she passed his inspection, and that he accepted her. His ears perked to listen to her words, before he readied his own reply. "Other slaves, my lady, would die to be in decent health." He stated, cocking his head to the side slightly. She smiled faintly, and lowered her head in a dip of agreement, eyes gleaming with satisfaction. So he did know that. She had wanted to be sure. ”This much I know, good sir. For I am just like other slaves, and know what they feel.” The mare stated softly, moving her gaze finally out onto the water, tail flicking absently as she thought of her friends that she had been forced to leave behind with their abusive master. Some miracle had allowed her escape, but not her friends, and her action haunted her every day. "Health is everything. It's what allows us to be here right now. Invalids wouldn't be able to stand the beach, much less the more... brutal masters. I'm glad you have your health." He said, and she found herself smiling gently. ”As am I, sir.” Trinity said quietly, still smiling gently. "Your voice is beautiful, by the way." Calico whispered, and her warm gaze narrowed slightly, catching hints of something in his voice, something that told her he had said the same thing to another, one he cared for deeply. ”I am surprised to be held to be able to even compare to the one which holds your heart, and for that I am flattered.” She said softly, unsure as if he had even heard her words.
The mare felt an answering smile move to take its place on her elegant features as the stallion smiled. "Trinity, the pleasure is all mine." He said, dipping his head into a shallow bow to return her own. "Your name suits you very well, if it's not too bold for me to say. I don't think another name could work. Then again, I'm a firm believer that only one name can ever suit one being." He said, and she smiled once more, eyes sparkling with gentle mirth. ”Why, aren’t you sweet? Thank you, darling. Trinity said with a warm smile, laughing softly, though not at him, just at her surprise at being treated so kindly. She noted that he squinted against the light created by the sunset reflecting upon the sands, and knew that her coat was not helping the matter, so she shifted slightly to the side, so that the sun laid on her flank, and kept the glare from being quite so bright. "I understand completely, my lady. Perhaps if we considered each other friends, it would be easier?" His smile turned coy, then playful as he stepped forward and away slightly, gesturing with his handsome head. "And as a friend, I believe it's my duty to accompany you on a walk. If you'll allow me the honor, of course." And she found herself laughing softly and dipping her head in consent, taking a smooth, gliding step towards him, and drew nearly even with the stallion, her head beside his shoulder. ”Hmm, the honor is all mine, my dear, and I’m sure being friends won’t be so hard with such a polite one as yourself.” She said warmly, her tail whisking against her hindquarters lazily.

It was refreshing, being in the company of one with a level head, someone who didn't jump to conclusions and saw life with a realistic point of view. Of course, he couldn't help himself from dreaming every now and then, but that was the wonder of life. In the end, he was a realist, just as he imagined Trinity to be. Being a slave didn't often lead to any other states of mind, not for long anyways. Spirits were crushed... and he hoped he could fix that, before it was too late. "I'm proud to say I'm not like other masters, and I hope you will agree with me."
He stated, in response to her admitting she was just like other slaves in mind. "Is the life of a slave truly that miserable, though? I know with the wrong master it could be, but what about overall? I don't imagine it would be too difficult, if you were able to still enjoy the small things in life... like the stroke of the wind, reminding you that you're still alive." He couldn't imagine any life being hell on Earth, that some would see living as a curse and those reminders would just torment them. Then again, he had never been a slave. He followed her gaze out to the open sea, wondering what kind of a life had driven her to live life taking such careful and measured steps, though he dare not ask. Too personal. If she wished to share that information, she would in due time; he wouldn't press her. His ears flicked toward her, listening to her accept his compliment in regards to her voice. A smile flashed across his lips and danced in his eyes, like a little boy caught day dreaming about the girl with braids, though that was the only response he could give. For once, words were lost to him, so that he simply shrugged it off and nodded, that smile still present. "No need to thank me, for stating the truth." He replied smoothly, deflecting her praise yet again, though this time it was in response to her name. "But I do need to thank you, so thank you very kindly, madam." He lowered himself into a bow, laughing inwardly at the concept that she would be so kind as to block the sun's rays from his eyes. Thoughtful and kind, he truly had run into a rarity. "I'm glad, for friends are something everyone should have. They support you in time of need." He stated as he walked alongside her, down the beach's edge. The water licked against his hooves every so often as the tide rose and fell, though he wasn't thinking about that. He was thinking about the world they lived in; the decisions each had to make to preserve themselves. "As a friend, and also as a master, I can offer you protection... if you were willing to take it. You see, I'm looking to claim a land for myself and my love. We've agreed to take in any slave who needs refuge; free them to make their own decisions in life. You could be a part of this herd, be free to find your own mate, your own love... and have your own foals, if your heart desired. You'd be protected, of course, by myself and Caelum. The decision is yours, and I don't mind if you take time to consider it."[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Trinity shook her head slightly, an impulsive act to remove her long forelock from her eyes. She then turned her head slightly to watch the stallion, watch his actions, his emotions. Her dark gaze was constantly kind, warm and welcoming despite her past. She spoke of her past to no one, saw no real reason to. Why should anyone care to learn of her past? It wasn’t like they could do anything to change it. So she’d learned to keep her thoughts to herself, at least for the most part. The mare watched the stag as he spoke, "I'm proud to say I'm not like other masters, and I hope you will agree with me." His statement not full of arrogance, nor a massive ego, merely stating something he believed to be true. She dipped her head lightly, smiling warmly, her eyes sparkling with agreement. "Is the life of a slave truly that miserable, though? I know with the wrong master it could be, but what about overall? I don't imagine it would be too difficult, if you were able to still enjoy the small things in life... like the stroke of the wind, reminding you that you're still alive." He said, and she tilted her head thoughtfully, her gaze dipping to watch her hooves as she shifted slightly, ears flicking. ”The life of a slave….hmm…perhaps that could be considered a life, but I do not think it is truly that miserable, for the most part. To those who cannot or will not witness the beauty of the life around them? Perhaps. But for those who see that being so blind to all around them is something that will only make things worse? Then no. I will not boast and say I am the best of the latter, only that I strive to see the good in life, strive to see the good in others, and to make decisions based on the facts, and not my beliefs.” She spoke softly, slowly as she gathered her thoughts, turning her gaze to the open sea. Lying before her, its massive cerulean stretches captivating her, was the biggest example of nature’s beauty. How fickle it was. Roiling one moment, calm and glassy the next. Today was one of those days, where the waves were gentle, and the water could be seen through to the bottom, so glassy was its surface. Trinity turned her head ever so slightly to see his ears flicker towards her, and a smile flash across his lips to dance in his eyes. He simply shrugged off his lack of words and nodded, though his smile was still present. "No need to thank me, for stating the truth." He said smoothly, deflecting her praise yet again, and she smiled faintly to herself, amusement sparkling in the eyes of the older Equine. "But I do need to thank you, so thank you very kindly, madam." The stallion lowered himself into a bow, and she smiled wryly, her lips twisting ever so slightly as she dipped her head in return. "I'm glad, for friends are something everyone should have. They support you in time of need." Calico stated as he walked alongside her, down the beach’s pristine edge. The water reached their hooves now and then, and she smiled faintly. ”Isn’t that what friends are for, yes?” She asked, smiling warmly. The decision is yours, and I don't mind if you take time to consider it." He said, and she dipped her head in thought, caution in her gaze, though not because she was worried the stallion had some sort of ulterior motive. She still was, to a certain extent, but that wasn’t the cause. Did she want-was she ready to enter into something of this magnitude? No doubt with Calico’s personality, his mate was of the same type, and no doubt they’d bring mares and the like in easily. Was she able to handle the large group? ”I would love to, Calico. And I am honored to be extended such an invitation. You cannot know how much it means to an old mare like me.” Trinity said, her words heartfelt, though still soft.
