the air was frigid as it wafted in from off the water, chilling the young mare that stood ankle deep in the sand of the beach. her gaze was lowered, the wind tousled deep red hued locks, tangling them around her face, against her neck. The night air swept around her, darkening her red dun coat to a more crimson hued silver, the lacing, rabicano and other markings glowed in the moonlight, vibrant white against the rest of the darkness. The swish and lull of the waves cancelled out most other sounds, letting her relax for a short while, a while that didn't last long when suddenly a soft sound was picked up in her ears, a crab scuttling along the beach, and instantly she leapt, jumping at the sound, side stepping away, ears pinned, tail flicking against her sides, causing her to flinch again as she stood still, legs splayed out slightly for a better stability, breathing heavier. her eyes fell o the tiny creature, watching it, knowing it wasn't a threat and cursing herself. so much like her mother, her father would say, but . . . rosabella felt she must be oh so very much worse. she slowly straightened, shifting her hooves faintly, ears alert, body tense, before forcing herself to relax again. She was okay, there was nothing dangerous going on. She had to believe that, trust in that. Not get carried away by her fears. She shook her head lightly, before walking closer to the edge of the water again, looking down at her reflection, her dark mane falling into bright blue eyes, still shifting constantly, terrified of what else might be out there, waiting to scare her. the monsters were always waiting. always.

Beaches were supposed to be warm. Was the golden sand that whipped across his side warm to the touch? Or was it ice cold? Wulf just couldn't tell anymore. His body was just so numb. His mane was flopped over his face as his legs dragged behind him. He couldn't even remember how he got here. He just was. It was kind of hard to keep track of where he was at all times. Sometimes he went in one direction and sometimes he went in another... constantly moving and no thinking... his protective cushion made him work on autopilot. Things were easy that way. There were moments when he wondered if he would walk himself to death, but since it hadn't happened yet, he didn't pay much mind to it.
As he got further down the beach, a speck came into view. It was something familiar. Well, not something familiar per se. It was a familiar shape. A horse shape. Normally, Wulf would have backed away and gone in the opposite direction. He didn't want to have to deal with another horse. Masters. Slaves. Whatever. He didn't want to stop, or talk, or deal with any of it. But, right now, he just didn't care. His body was already in motion, his mind was already some place else, and autopilot was already going wild.
Besides, why did he have to run away? This wasn't claimed for anyone. Oh, but he was a slave. An unclaimed one at that. Slaves weren't supposed to be walking around their own. They were expected to do things... He cut off that thought right away. He wasn't going to dig through his memories again. Not even when he was in his cocoon. It would just cause him more pain. He couldn't have any more pain. No more pain. No more. The dun stallion dragged past the speck without even stopping to acknowledge it.

She closed her eyes briefly, head tilted to the side lightly as she finally found her calm again, tail wafting in a slight breeze, the waves blocking the majority of the other sounds. Everything seemed alright, though she didn't expect it to last for long, it never lasted for long. A half sigh, partial whimper left her muzzle as she lowered her head slowly, touching the water briefly, the coolness touching her muzzle softly, the smell of salt stronger. She shook her head, taking a half of a step back, flinching slightly when her tangle got tangled around her limbs as she did so, before it shifted to fly free in the wind again. She sighed, before suddenly freezing at the sight of another close by. Another horse. She jumped, flinching away, side stepping two or three times just to keep out of the reach of the stallion, watching him, noticing their similar colors, her blue eyes fearfully shrouded by her forelock, before a bird suddenly burst from the trees, sending out a bunch more into the air, with caws and flapping wings, and the young mare whinnied in fright. eyes wide, trying to calm her thundering heart. Just birds, a lot of birds, but they weren't a dangerous. Just calm down . . . just calm down. Though it appeared she wasn't about to calm down any time soon. Just to much crazy going on. Just too much . . . So she stared at the stallion, watching him walk o by, hoping he'd move on, not even stop. Not even look at her. Just keep going and leave her in peace, quiet, and the constant fear. Just keep walking, don't stop., she might be a master mare, but she was the most fragile and timid of them, for that anyone could see was the truth. She was simply too delicate.

He passed the speck without a single thought, but then paused for a moment. A shiver branched out from his spine or was it his core? Wherever it came from it was not friendly. A second later a gasp escaped from his lips. It wasn't one of shock, but of extreme terror. His layers! The layers of protection that kept him safe all these months, the feeling of numbness and the satisfaction of being protected, was being stripped from him the moment... the moment that girl... that mare stared at him. He recoiled in fear, shrieking and nipping at his sides as the protection was ripped away from him. His large, brown eyes grew wide and his face twisted into something that appeared to be gut wrenching agony. Wulf curled into a small ball. He wanted to be small and insignificant so that she would stop. He tried to make her stop shredding through all that he had left.
No. NO! STOPP! He pleaded, trying not to look at her.
Wulf turned away from the mare. Now she was a mare, not a speck. He began trembling. What was going on? Why had she become something different in his mind? How did she take away his cocoon? And how was he going to get it back? He had to get it back! He had to do it soon too. He began to breath heavily, having what seemed like a panic attack. Too many emotions were rushing back too quickly and many of them he never wanted to feel ever again. Hurt. Pain. Betrayal. Relief. Happiness. Love.

The stallion went to move on by, her gaze following him shortly, before her blue eyes jumped away at the same moment a gasp of extreme terror left his muzzle, and instantly the easily frightened female's ears pinned, her alarm instantly shooting up. Her gaze jumped back to the stallion now standing still a ways ahead of her on the beach, as he turned to look at her, before recoiling, shrieking, nipping at his sides, and the young mare stumbled back, away, tail pinned, ears back, eyes wide, and body tense. What . . . What was wrong with him. Her blue eyes widened, shocked, terrified, desperate to find an escape as his face twisted with agony, his voice pleading for something to stop, turning away from her, trembling, and suddenly the mare was no longer standing still, back pedaling away, "D-don't hurt me." She squeaked, instantly wishing her father, or her twin was there, there to hug her, hold her close, anything. Anything at all but this! And so she stumbled back, further from him, flinching as the salt water touched her coat, at every other sound, her gaze constantly dancing, but never remaining on the stallion for long. A master mare, she might be, but she was terrified, completely and utterly terrified. And her mine was saying one thing, one thing only. Escape. And so she turned, running into the forest, acting blindly, which anyone could see as she narrowly missed clipping a tree, tears staining her rosey red cheeks as the dun disappeared until only the faint shimmer of her white was seen among the green as she hid behind a tree, quivering and shaking and hoping that the crazy stallion wouldn't hurt her.
